From popular baby carriers to breast pumps and baby monitors, Momcozy is quickly developing a reputation for high-quality baby products at affordable prices.

This is their newest baby monitor, the BM03, which expands upon their BM01 model with some new features and capabilities.

To review the new BM03 Baby Monitor, we put it through our full testing process:

As a non-WiFi baby monitor, the BM03 has an impressive feature set. We loved the intuitive and easy-to-use menu, the large high-resolution display, the excellent range and battery life, and its reasonable price point.

Overall, there are tons of great features in the new Momcozy BM03! For parents looking for a relatively basic baby monitor without the increased cost and complexity of a WiFi app-based baby monitor, this could be the perfect option! The battery life and screen size were both excellent, and we were very impressed with its reliability and features.

Some thoughts on the minor drawbacks:

If the power goes down, the parent unit will keep working, but it will lose its connection to the camera. That's because the camera has no battery backup. Granted, that's extremely rare in a baby monitor (especially one at this price point), but it's worth mentioning.

Also, because the screen is so large, the parent unit is too large to fit into most pockets - especially the tiny pockets on my mom jeans!

We prefer having the versatility of a belt clip.

Unboxing the Momcozy Baby Monitor

The baby monitor arrives in a sleeved box about the size you would expect, specifically 8" wide x 7" deep x 5" high.

It's worth pointing out that the charger plugs are relatively narrow, which allows you to plug both of them into the same outlet (or next to something else that it plugged in).

The camera, parent unit, and accessories are very well packaged and unlikely to be damaged upon arrival.

Here is everything that was in the box:

On the bottom of the camera is a universal tripod mounting hole. This provides superior versatility for basically any camera mount you can imagine. In other words, if you don't like the included wall mount, you can purchase basically any camera mount with the common 1/4-20 UNC thread and it will fit.

The back of the parent unit has a speaker and kickstand.

On the top edge, it has the volume button (we love that!), the power (long-hold) and sleep (quick tap) button, and the retractable antenna.

As expected, the camera and parent unit are made in China. The company that manufactures the baby monitor is called Hong Kong Lute Technology Co., Ltd.

Pairing and Start-up

One unique feature of the Momcozy baby monitor is its expandability of up to 4 cameras.

The cameras can be viewed picture-in-picture (split-screen) or cycled through in series (one after the next).

When we powered on the camera and parent unit, they immediately paired with each other. No delays or searching.

The startup screen animation was adorable and showcased the parent unit's beautiful high-definition display.

Adding Additional Cameras

We added a second camera and it was surprisingly easy.

Enter the menu and choose the option that looks like a camera. Then select Add and press the PAIR button on the camera itself.

Once paired, each camera will be shown with a number (1, 2, 3, etc).

We loved the ability to have the parent unit automatically cycle through each camera (every few seconds).

When both cameras are displayed simultaneously in split-screen mode, the large screen makes them relatively easy to see. On the older model (see our Momcozy BM01 baby monitor review here), they were a little smaller and harder to see.

Overall, we thought pairing and setup were easy and intuitive. We appreciated the intuitive icons and range of adjustability.

Features we Loved

There were so many features to test!

We cycle through most of the features in the above video, but here are the main ones:

Zoom: The camera can be zoomed between 1x (normal), 2x, and 4x. At 1x and 2x the image is relatively clear, but at 4x it is a bit pixelated. This is normal for digital (not optical) zoom and applies to every baby monitor on the market.
Panning: The range of panning was impressive. We estimate that it rotates up and down by about 90 degrees. For right-left rotation, it basically goes 360 degrees around.
Lullabies: You can choose between 8 different lullabies, or you can choose to loop all 8 of them. You can also adjust the volume of the camera's speaker.
Sleep mode: You can customize how long to wait before putting the screen to sleep (but keeping the parent unit on), between 1 minute, 3 minutes, or 5 minutes. You can also choose to keep it in Always On mode but the battery life will suffer (especially on high brightness).
VOX: This is a basic cry detection feature that will power on the screen, set off an audible alarm, and flash the noise indicator LEDs. You can choose low, medium, or high sensitivity, which corresponds to 75dB, 65dB, or 60dB noises. If your baby is relatively loud when they cry, you can put the device on low sensitivity, and vice-versa.
Two-way talk: This button on the parent unit looks like a microphone and allows you to talk to your baby. In our testing, the sound quality was pretty decent.
Feeding reminders: You can set feeding reminders at regular intervals (e.g., every 2 or 6 hours), which will sound the audible alarm (with adjustable volume) when the time arrives.
Temperature sensor: This was surprisingly sensitive and accurate (according to our test thermometer), and can be displayed in F or C.
Languages: Available languages are English, German, French, Italian, or Spanish.

All the features worked surprisingly well.

For convenience, we do wish the volume button would let you hold it down to change the volume rather than pressing the button multiple times.

You can't deny that the camera itself is adorable!

On the edge of a nearby bookshelf or dresser, the camera can peer down into a nearby crib.

Perfect!

The camera wall mount was also great if you plan on mounting to a wall or other nearby surface.

It does include the 2 screws for wall mounting.

If you're looking for more flexibility in mounting, we suggest searching for camera mounts on Amazon and getting something that will suit your situation. For example, clamp-based mounts, flexible-feet tripod mounts, etc. the beauty of the Momcozy BM03 camera is that it includes a screw hole on the bottom, making it compatible with most camera mounts on the market.

Overall, the Momcozy offers a nice set of features for even the most advanced users! Just as importantly, the features were very easy to use.

Day and Night Vision

One of the most important features of an excellent baby monitor is high-quality night vision.

Baby monitors use an array of infrared lights and cameras to provide clear visibility in complete darkness, allowing you to monitor your child even on the darkest nights.

In our testing, we found the daytime display had good color quality and contrast. While it wasn't the best we've encountered, it certainly wasn't the worst. Probably in the top 30%.

For the price, it's probably the best daytime clarity we've seen!

At night, the camera automatically switches to night vision with an audible click, displaying the image in shades of gray.

Pretty good, and on par with some of the best baby monitors on the market!

Battery and Range

The 5800mAh battery capacity is compelling, but we also realize that it's a large (5.5") and high-resolution (1080p) display, which likely consumes a lot of battery.

In our testing, the battery lasted about 14 hours when the screen was on. That's good enough to get you from the evening (about 8pm) until near lunchtime the next day. Pretty great!

When the screen is off (in standby mode and only turning on once every hour or so), the battery lasts about 3 days. Excellent!

For range, the antenna is rated for up to 1640ft of operating range. Of course, this assumes no interference or obstacles (walls, trees, floors, etc), which is unrealistic unless you're camping in an open field.

For practical purposes, we found that the system works across 2 levels of a home (from the 1st to 3rd floor), and from a nursery to about 200 feet into the back or front yard.

In our experience, that is on par with most other baby monitors. If you're looking for a more extended range, definitely consider a Wi-Fi-compatible baby monitor. For example, we recently posted a review of the Ellie Baby Plus baby monitor, which includes both a parent unit and app streaming for about the same price as this model.

Some Minor Cons

We encountered only a few minor drawbacks.

First, while the parent unit is battery-operated, the camera is not. This means that if you experience a power outage, the system will stop working. Although this is common with baby monitors, it’s still worth mentioning.

Second, the parent unit lacks a belt clip and is relatively bulky. It’s unlikely to fit in your pocket (especially smaller pockets, like those on mom jeans!), so having a belt clip would have been a helpful feature.

These are small issues, but they’re worth noting.

Conclusions

We were excited to get our hands on the new Momcozy BM03 baby monitor, which is an impressive addition to the market.

It offers a balance between affordability, functionality, simplicity, and ease of use.

With its large 5.5" high-resolution screen, intuitive menu, and a robust set of features like two-way audio, split-screen viewing, cry alerts, and feeding reminders, it's an excellent choice for parents seeking a reliable and user-friendly baby monitor.

The night vision quality and battery life are top-notch, and the ability to expand up to four cameras makes it versatile for growing families.

While there are a few minor drawbacks, such as the lack of a battery in the camera and the absence of a belt clip, these are far outweighed by the monitor's numerous strengths.

If you're in the market for a non-WiFi baby monitor that offers great value for its price, the Momcozy BM03 is definitely worth considering. It truly has the potential to be one of the best baby monitors of the year, especially for parents who want all the essential features without the complexities of a WiFi-based system.
