We tested the Coterie Diapers for softness, absorbency, fit, and skin-friendliness to see how they stack up against top competitors like Honest, Dyper, and Pampers Pure.

In our hands-on testing of real-world comfort and performance, we evaluated the Size 1 diapers (8-12 pounds) with a 3-month-old baby.

Let's see how they perform relative to the best diapers of the year!

Full disclosure, Coterie donated diapers to us for testing. Thanks, Coterie!

Unboxing & First Impressions

Coterie shipped our diapers in a clean, minimalistic box.

Fully recyclable and neatly packed.

When we opened the box, we found six packages of diapers inside, each containing 33 diapers:

Right out of the package, the diapers looked and felt premium.

We snapped a photo of two diapers side-by-side, showing the soft quilted material, the wetness indicator, and the subtle branding:

Each diaper felt soft, smooth, and flexible, with a visible wetness indicator strip on the outside.

Here’s what they look like, fully expanded, inside and out:

The neutral design is clean and minimalist.

No prints, just a beautiful and soft fabric-like material.

First impression: premium look, premium feel!

Fit & Comfort

We tested the Size 1 diaper on a 3-month-old baby (10 pounds), and the fit was excellent.

The waistband stretches easily without digging into the skin, and the leg gussets/cuffs are soft and flexible.

The gussets do a great job keeping everything comfortably contained without irritation.

The fastening tabs are soft and secure, attaching easily and staying in place even during wiggles or sleep.

We also loved that even if part of the tab touches the baby’s skin, it doesn’t cause discomfort or leave marks.

After several hours of use, our baby’s skin showed no red marks or signs of pressure.

The diaper moved naturally with every kick and squirm.

Comfort rating: 9/10.

Absorbency & Leak Protection

This is where Coterie really shines.

The brand claims up to 12 hours of leak protection; in our testing, it lived up to the promise!

We performed a simple but effective test: we poured water onto a dry diaper, one ounce at a time, to see how much it could hold before leaking.

To our surprise, it handled our entire 12 ounces of liquid without any leaks!

We also weighed the diaper to document absorption.

When dry, it weighed only 0.9 ounces:

A nice, lightweight diaper!

After absorbing 12 ounces of water, the same diaper weighed 12.9 ounces, a gain of exactly 12 ounces.

We were very impressed with how much liquid it can hold while staying secure and dry on the outside:

According to Coterie, the larger sizes (like size 4-5) can hold even more liquid!

In real-world overnight testing, the diaper stayed dry to the touch after 10+ hours, and there were no leaks on clothing or bedding.

A dry baby is a happy baby, especially when they're trying to sleep!

Absorbency rating: 9.5/10.

Skin Safety & Materials

Coterie’s commitment to clean diapering is clear.

These diapers are made with a totally chlorine-free (TCF) wood pulp core, a soft polypropylene top sheet, and non-toxic inks.

They’re also free of fragrance, lotions, latex, and rubber, and carry the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification for product safety.

Here is a full list of ingredients used in Coterie diapers:

During our tests, the baby’s skin stayed completely clear: no redness or rash, even after extended overnight wear.

The diaper’s inner layer stays dry and comfortable, minimizing irritation risk.

Dermatologists and parents alike often recommend Coterie for babies with sensitive skin or eczema.

It’s a great choice for parents prioritizing safe, non-irritating materials.

Skin safety rating: 9/10.

Sustainability & Packaging

Coterie’s sustainability approach focuses on responsible sourcing and transparency.

The pulp comes from sustainably managed forests (FSC or PEFC certified), and the cardboard shipping boxes are fully recyclable.

They even offer a mail-back recycling program for their plastic packaging. Simply send an email to [email protected] and ask them to send you a pre-paid shipping label to recycle your plastic packaging.

While the diaper itself isn’t compostable due to the superabsorbent polymer (SAP) core, Coterie’s use of clean materials (including 25% plant-based materials) and recyclable packaging is a step in the right direction.

Sustainability rating: 8/10.

Value & Cost

Coterie sits at the higher end of the market, coming at around 50-60 cents per diaper, or about $95 per month, for a subscription box.

That’s premium pricing. We think that given their quality, comfort, leak protection, and skin safety, many parents find them worth the investment.

In short: you’re paying for high performance, long wear times, and better skin outcomes, not marketing fluff.

Value rating: 8/10.

Our Conclusions

The Coterie Diaper earns its reputation as a top-tier, luxury diaper that truly performs. In our testing, the diapers impressed us with their softness, leak protection, and clean materials.

Yes, they’re pricey, but they deliver exceptional performance, especially for parents who are tired of the blowouts, rashes, and scratchy materials of cheaper brands. The secure gussets, soft fastening tabs, and high absorbency make them a standout option for both everyday use and overnight.

We give Coterie Diapers a 4.8 out of 5.0 overall, making them one of the best-performing diapers we’ve tested!
