The crib is one of the most beautiful and substantial convertible cribs we have tested, and the dresser is an excellent match in both design and construction quality.

That is an extremely strong list!

The Briar Crib's biggest strength is how naturally it transitions through four useful stages without requiring parents to purchase separate conversion kits later.

The solid and substantial construction also stood out immediately. The frame pieces felt heavy, the painted finish was smooth and consistent, and the thick wooden mattress supports were reassuring.

The dresser made an equally strong impression. It is very heavy, arrives mostly assembled through Nestig's white-glove service, includes six smooth-gliding drawers, and uses thick structural panels.

There are a few minor drawbacks: the collection is expensive, delivery can take approximately six weeks, and we detected a slight paint odor from the crib and dresser, which dissipated after a few days. A final point is that because the crib is handmade, there will be some slight variation; this can cause small joint gaps.

Shipping & Delivery

To be completely transparent, Nestig provided us with the Briar Crib and Briar Dresser for hands-on testing.

The Briar products are ethically made in Brazil and shipped directly to customers. Rather than maintaining a large amount of finished inventory, Nestig produces its furniture in relatively small quantities, which helps reduce waste but also results in longer delivery times.

At the time of our review, the estimated lead time was approximately six weeks.

That is much longer than buying a crib from a local store or major warehouse retailer, so the Briar is not an ideal last-minute purchase. We recommend ordering well before your expected delivery date and leaving enough extra time to inspect the furniture, assemble the bassinet, and resolve any potential shipping damage.

The crib arrives in two large boxes.

The smaller box (about 40 pounds) contains everything needed to assemble the bassinet, including its four sides, mattress support, mattress, wheels, hardware, tools, and instructions.

The larger box (about 60 pounds) contains the parts needed to convert the bassinet into the full-size crib and later into the toddler bed or floor bed.

Given the size and weight of the larger box, it is useful to be prepared: avoid having the boxes left somewhere that requires one person to carry them up stairs or across a large home.

The dresser follows a very different delivery process: it arrives through Nestig's white-glove delivery service rather than through ordinary parcel delivery. The delivery team brings the dresser into the room of your choice, installs the feet and drawer knobs, positions it where requested, and removes the packaging.

Nestig currently charges separately for white-glove delivery, with the price based on the home's distance from one of its delivery centers. Delivery is also limited to homes located within the company's supported delivery radius.

What impressed us most is that the collection's features feel purposeful rather than excessive.

The wheels make the bassinet useful in multiple rooms, the three crib heights support different developmental stages, and the included toddler components extend the useful life of the crib without requiring a later conversion-kit purchase.

Similarly, the dresser's six-drawer layout provides practical storage without becoming excessively wide, while its spacious top can support a changing pad during the diaper years and remain useful as a conventional dresser later.

Specifications & Safety

The Nestig Briar Crib has different exterior dimensions in its bassinet, crib, and toddler-bed configurations.

The crib dimensions are:

• Bassinet: 30.7 inches long, 22.2 inches wide, and 34 inches high.
• Full crib: 30.7 inches wide, 55 inches long, and 37 inches high.
• Toddler bed: 30.7 inches wide, 55.2 inches long, and 37 inches high.

The bassinet is narrow enough to pass easily through standard interior doorways, making its wheels genuinely useful rather than merely decorative.

The included bassinet mattress is approximately 27.5 inches long, 19.3-19.5 inches wide, and 2 inches thick. The label on our mattress listed a width of 19.3 inches, while Nestig's current product specifications round the width to 19.5 inches.

The full-size crib accepts a standard crib mattress, which is sold separately.

The Briar Dresser dimensions are:

• Exterior: 47.2 inches long, 20.5 inches deep, and 34.9 inches high.
• Drawer interiors: 19.1 inches wide, 15.2 inches deep, and 5 inches high.

Nestig states that the crib meets or exceeds applicable Consumer Product Safety Commission and ASTM International standards, including standards governing full-size cribs, bassinets, and toddler beds.

The crib is also certified by the Baby Safety Alliance and third-party tested to verify that it is lead and phthalate-safe.

The dresser meets applicable CPSC and ASTM furniture-safety requirements and includes an anti-tip kit.

Parents should install the anti-tip restraint before using the dresser, particularly if it will be placed in a nursery or child's room. The white-glove delivery team installs the feet and knobs but does not normally attach the anti-tip system to the wall.

Nestig lists the crib frame as sustainably harvested solid Brazilian pine. The mattress supports use a thick TSCA-compliant eco-engineered wood rather than a flexible metal-wire frame.

The dresser combines solid Brazilian pine with eco-engineered wood. In person, it feels exceptionally substantial, and even the painted back and bottom panels are much thicker and more finished than what we typically see on flat-pack nursery furniture.

The crib currently includes an 18-year limited warranty and a 60-day return period, providing unusually long coverage for a nursery product.

Bassinet Mode

The Nestig Briar begins its life as a compact bassinet.

Opening the smaller box reveals everything needed for this first configuration.

The box includes:

• Two-inch bassinet mattress.
• Four caster wheels.

Our first impression was that everything felt solid and heavy.

The frame uses real wood rather than thin hollow tubing or lightweight molded plastic. The pieces have a smooth painted surface, substantial weight, and carefully rounded edges.

The painted finish looked beautiful and appeared to use multiple coats. We detected a slight paint odor immediately after opening the box, so parents who are sensitive to odors may want to unpack and assemble the bassinet in a ventilated room several days before use.

The smell was not overwhelming, but it was noticeable enough to mention.

Assembly took us approximately 20 minutes.

The assembly process is not especially difficult, but it can feel slightly tedious because the solid pieces are heavy and need to remain aligned while the fasteners are installed.

One person could probably assemble it, but a helper makes the process easier by holding the opposite end steady.

The pieces fit together very well during our assembly.

Solid wood has more natural variation than molded plastic, metal, or manufactured particleboard. That can occasionally produce small differences in alignment, but we did not experience any meaningful fit problem while constructing the bassinet.

Once assembled, the Briar bassinet is gorgeous.

The design offers a modern interpretation of the traditional Jenny Lind crib, combining decorative turned spindles with smooth corners, gently curved feet, and a clean painted finish.

The spindle details give the bassinet visual character without making it feel excessively ornate or old-fashioned.

We especially appreciated the mattress-support platform.

Many bassinets and mini cribs use a metal-wire support that flexes, bounces, or produces noise as the baby moves. The Briar uses a thick wooden support that feels exceptionally stable and quiet.

The bassinet felt sturdy from every direction, with no meaningful wobbling, rattling, or squeaking.

During our testing, our baby slept peacefully in the bassinet.

The included mattress is thicker than the thin pads supplied with many bassinets, measuring approximately two inches thick.

Subjectively, it felt slightly softer and more cushioned than we expected from a bassinet mattress, while still fitting the frame closely without concerning edge gaps.

Parents should use only the mattress supplied or specifically approved by Nestig in the bassinet configuration and should follow all safe-sleep instructions included with the product.

The bassinet's four quiet caster wheels are another major advantage.

They allow parents to roll the bassinet between a bedroom, nursery, living room, or home office without lifting it. At only 22.2 inches wide, it fits easily through normal interior doorways.

Two wheels can be locked to keep the bassinet stationary.

We found the wheel movement smooth and quiet on our floors, without the loud rattling or rough rolling sometimes produced by inexpensive plastic casters.

Included Bassinet Mattress

The bassinet mattress has a breathable-feeling polyester surface surrounding a polyurethane foam core.

It felt well made, fit the bassinet closely, and was more substantial than most included bassinet pads we have encountered.

However, we generally prefer crib and bassinet mattresses that minimize the use of polyurethane foam.

The mattress cover is polyester and is not removable. Nestig also notes that the mattress itself is not waterproof, so a fitted waterproof cover designed specifically for its nonstandard dimensions is a worthwhile accessory.

Standard bassinet sheets may not fit correctly because the Briar mattress uses a relatively uncommon size.

The label on our mattress confirmed that it was made in Brazil and used a polyurethane core.

The label listed dimensions of approximately 19.3 inches wide, 27.5 inches long, and 2 inches thick.

Overall, the included mattress is high quality and convenient, but its foam construction and nonstandard size are two factors to consider.

Full Crib Mode

When your baby outgrows the bassinet, the Briar converts into a standard full-size crib.

The components for the crib and toddler-bed stages arrive in the second, larger box.

Inside, we found:

• Two long full-size crib sides.
• Full-size wooden mattress-support platform.
• Two toddler-bed side rails.
• Toddler-bed footboard.
• Additional hardware and instructions.

One important detail is that you need to completely disassemble the bassinet before constructing the crib.

The crib reuses two bassinet end panels along with some of the original hardware. This is an efficient design because it reduces the number of duplicate components, but the transition is more involved than simply extending or unfolding the original frame.

Keep all hardware, tools, instructions, and unused pieces organized after the first assembly. We recommend placing each stage's smaller components in labeled bags so nothing goes missing during the months or years between conversions.

Assembly of the full crib took us approximately 20 minutes.

As with the bassinet, the process was straightforward but easier with two people.

The pieces are long and heavy, and an extra set of hands helps keep everything properly aligned while installing the hardware.

The completed crib looks fantastic.

Its design is traditional enough to feel timeless but clean enough to work in a modern nursery. The repeated spindle pattern creates visual interest without overwhelming the room.

The individual spindles were smooth, evenly finished, and free of rough surfaces during our inspection.

The large curved feet are equally attractive and help visually connect the full crib with the bassinet and matching dresser.

The finished crib felt extremely sturdy.

We did not notice concerning movement, flexing, squeaking, or rattling when applying moderate pressure to the rails and corners.

Three Mattress Heights

The Briar includes three mattress-support positions.

Measured from the top of the crib rail to the support location, the three positions are approximately:

• 16 inches below the top rail.
• 21.75 inches below the top rail.
• 27.25 inches below the top rail.

Those numbers describe the support position rather than the top surface of the crib mattress.

After accounting for the approximately 0.75-inch mattress-support platform and a typical 4-5-inch crib mattress, the mattress surface ends up roughly 11, 17, or 22 inches below the top rail.

The highest position makes it easier to reach a newborn who cannot yet roll, sit, or pull up.

The middle and lower positions progressively increase the rail height above the mattress as the baby develops greater mobility.

Move the support down according to Nestig's instructions and your child's developmental milestones. Do not wait until a child is already pulling to stand before lowering the mattress.

Crib Mattress Fit

The full crib uses a standard-size crib mattress, which gives parents many more choices than the nonstandard bassinet mattress.

For our testing, we paired the Briar with the Newton Baby crib mattress and waterproof cover.

The Newton Baby is currently our top-ranked crib mattress, and it was an excellent match for the Briar. Conveniently, you can order it with the crib, directly from Nestig.

It fit closely on all four sides and into the corners, with essentially no measurable gaps.

A close mattress fit is important because large spaces between the mattress and frame can become an entrapment hazard.

Always verify the fit of your specific mattress and make sure it meets the crib and mattress manufacturers' dimensional requirements.

During our testing, our baby slept peacefully in the completed crib.

The thick mattress-support platform remained quiet and stable while the baby moved, without the bouncing or metallic noises sometimes produced by wire supports.

Minor Fit Variation

The only construction issue we noticed was a very small gap at a few joints.

The gap measured only approximately 2-3 millimeters and appeared cosmetic rather than structural.

Small variations like this are relatively common with handmade solid-wood furniture because natural wood can change slightly with humidity, temperature, grain direction, machining, and finishing.

We would not consider the gap a meaningful drawback, but buyers expecting every handmade joint to look as perfectly uniform as molded plastic should be aware of the possibility.

Any gap, crack, loose component, shipping damage, or alignment issue that appears structural should be reported to Nestig before the crib is used.

Toddler Bed & Montessori Floor Bed

The Briar's final stages use the included toddler side rails and footboard.

The toddler bed uses the same standard crib mattress, so there is no need to purchase a new mattress during the transition.

Two short side rails provide a partial barrier near the head of the bed while leaving a wide central opening for independent entry and exit.

A matching low footboard completes the design.

The toddler bed felt exceptionally stable and substantial, which should serve growing, active toddlers better than lightweight conversion rails or separate inexpensive toddler frames.

The exterior dimensions remain nearly identical to the crib, at approximately 30.7 inches wide, 55.2 inches long, and 37 inches high.

Parents can configure the toddler bed in two ways.

With the curved feet attached, it functions as a conventional raised toddler bed and maintains the visual style of the bassinet, crib, and dresser.

With the feet removed, the mattress sits much closer to the floor. Nestig describes this low configuration as its Montessori floor-bed stage.

Use the configuration appropriate for your child's age, abilities, and the manufacturer's instructions. 

Overall, we love that both configurations are included rather than requiring parents to choose one conversion path at the time of purchase!

Nestig Briar Dresser

The matching Briar Dresser is designed to carry the crib's distinctive spindle details across the rest of the nursery.

Unlike the crib, the dresser does not arrive as a collection of flat panels for customer assembly.

It is delivered with the main cabinet and drawers already assembled. The white-glove delivery team carries it into your chosen room, attaches the feet and knobs, positions the dresser, and removes the packaging.

That makes delivery substantially easier because the dresser is exceptionally heavy.

Its weight is immediately reassuring. It feels more like long-term bedroom furniture than temporary nursery storage.

The dresser measures 47.2 inches wide, 20.5 inches deep, and 34.9 inches high.

Its top is large enough to hold many standard changing pads while leaving some room for frequently used diapering supplies.

The six drawers are arranged in two columns of three.

Each drawer has internal dimensions of approximately 19.1 inches wide, 15.2 inches deep, and 5 inches high.

That provides useful storage for:

• Diapers and wipes.
• Changing-pad covers.
• Onesies and sleepers.
• Swaddles and blankets.
• Socks and accessories.

The drawers moved smoothly during our testing and felt well aligned.

Nestig officially lists the dresser as a combination of solid Brazilian pine and eco-engineered wood.

In person, it feels impressively substantial throughout. Even the rear panel is a thick, fully painted wood panel rather than the thin unfinished sheet commonly stapled onto the back of inexpensive dressers.

The bottom is similarly substantial and fully finished.

Those hidden areas say a lot about furniture construction.

Manufacturers can save considerable money by using thin unfinished panels where customers are unlikely to look. The Briar's finished back and bottom reinforce the impression that it is intended to remain attractive and functional beyond the nursery years.

Design Details

The dresser's upper corners transition into turned vertical spindle details along each side.

This is the most important design connection between the dresser and crib.

The details are recognizable enough to make the furniture look intentionally coordinated, but subtle enough that the dresser could also work on its own in a bedroom or playroom.

The dresser feet use the same softly curved profile as the crib.

The curves add character without creating sharp protruding corners near floor level.

Dresser Safety

The dresser includes an anti-tip kit and should be securely attached to a wall before use.

Furniture tip-over can occur when children climb on drawers, pull multiple drawers open, or shift the dresser's center of gravity.

Do not assume the dresser's substantial weight makes anchoring unnecessary.

The white-glove delivery service generally does not install the wall restraint, so plan to complete that approximately 15-minute step yourself immediately after delivery.

When using the top as a changing station, choose a changing pad that fits securely and follow the pad and dresser manufacturers' instructions. Keep one hand on the baby and never leave a child unattended on the elevated surface.

Crib & Dresser Pairing

The Briar Crib and Dresser look especially impressive when placed together.

The matching spindle details, curved feet, rounded corners, and painted finish create a cohesive nursery without making the room feel like a rigid furniture showroom.

The crib provides the stronger visual statement, while the dresser repeats the same styling more subtly.

We also liked that neither piece looks limited to the infant stage.

The crib transitions into a sophisticated toddler bed, and the dresser can remain useful throughout childhood and beyond.

That longevity helps justify some of the collection's premium price, particularly for families who plan to keep the furniture for many years or use the crib with more than one child.

Our own sample showed excellent overall construction, smooth operation, and strong attention to detail. The only fit issue we found was the tiny cosmetic gap at a few crib joints.

Things we Disliked

The delivery time is long. An approximately six-week lead time requires advance planning and makes the Briar unsuitable for an urgent or last-minute nursery purchase.

The collection is expensive. At the time of our review, the crib was listed at approximately $999 and the dresser at approximately $1,399 before any applicable delivery costs.

The bassinet mattress uses polyurethane foam. It is thick, comfortable-feeling, and well fitted, but we generally prefer mattresses that minimize polyurethane foam.

We noticed a slight paint odor. The smell was not overwhelming, but unpacking and airing out the components before use would be prudent.

Handmade wood furniture can have small variations. Our crib had a minor 2-3 millimeter cosmetic gap at a few joints.

Fortunately, none of these drawbacks significantly affected the collection's appearance, sturdiness, or everyday performance during our testing.

Conclusions

The Nestig Briar Crib and Dresser impressed us with their beautiful styling, substantial construction, practical versatility, and thoughtful attention to detail.

No product is perfect.

The collection is expensive, production and delivery take approximately six weeks, the dresser carries an additional delivery charge, and parents need room to store conversion components between stages.

We also would prefer a bassinet mattress without polyurethane foam, and we noticed a slight initial paint odor and a few tiny cosmetic joint gaps.

Those concerns are relatively minor compared with everything the Briar does well.
