Overall, we loved using the SafeguardPlus. Its combination of huge capacity, excellent washing and drying performance, water purification, flexible cycles, and very easy operation makes it one of the strongest bottle washers we've tested.

How We Tested

We tested the SafeguardPlus hands-on in a real kitchen environment, focusing on setup, controls, capacity, water handling, cleaning performance, drying effectiveness, steam sterilization, noise, maintenance, and overall convenience.

For our primary cleaning test, we loaded the washer with eight dirty bottles, nipples, and venting accessories from several popular brands: two Dr. Brown's bottles, two Tommee Tippee bottles, two Chicco bottles, one Comotomo bottle, and one Medela bottle.

We inspected the bottles and accessories immediately after drying, paying particular attention to residual droplets, water pooling, milk residue, cloudiness, and spotting.

We also tested our household water with the included TDS meter and evaluated how Papablic's water-quality guidance affects the recommended filter replacement schedule.

Unboxing & First Impressions

Everything arrived securely packaged, with the main washing chamber and separate water reservoir nicely wrapped and protected.

Once unboxed, we were impressed by the build quality. The SafeguardPlus feels sturdy and premium, with a modern white finish, chrome details, clear upper lid, and surprisingly compact design for an eight-bottle washer.

Setup & Installation

Setup is one of the SafeguardPlus's strongest features. From unboxing to being ready for our first cycle took us only about three minutes.

There are essentially three connections on the back: the drain hose, the water supply hose running to the separate water reservoir, and the power cord.

The drain hose runs into your sink, while the smaller water hose connects to the clean-water tank. Place the included PurifyClean water filter into the bottom of the reservoir, add water, plug in the machine, and you're basically finished.

We also loved the included quick-start guide. It's unusually clear and provides enough information about loading, wash modes, maintenance, and operation that many parents may rarely need the longer owner's manual.

Water Filtration & TDS Testing

The SafeguardPlus's most unusual feature is its built-in water filtration. Water passes through a replaceable PurifyClean filter before entering the wash chamber, which Papablic says reduces water hardness and contaminants such as lead and PFAS while helping prevent mineral deposits, limescale, and water spots.

Filling the reservoir is simple. We placed it directly into the sink and added tap water to at least the marked MIN line.

One useful tip: the first time you fill the reservoir with a dry filter installed, add slightly more water than the MIN line suggests. The filter slowly absorbs water as it becomes saturated, causing the reservoir level to fall slightly.

Papablic also includes something we haven't typically seen bundled with a bottle washer: a digital total dissolved solids, or TDS, meter.

A TDS meter estimates the concentration of dissolved minerals, salts, and metals in the water, reported in parts per million. Our tap water measured about 200 ppm.

According to Papablic's supplied guidance, that means we should replace our filter after roughly 30 wash cycles. If your water is below about 100 ppm, Papablic says the filter may last closer to 60 cycles, while poorer-quality or harder water may require more frequent replacement.

We also measured the water after it passed through the PurifyClean filter. The TDS reading dropped from about 200 ppm at the tap to approximately 120 ppm after filtration, a reduction of about 40%.

That tells us the filter meaningfully reduced the concentration of dissolved solids in our water, which is particularly relevant to mineral spotting, hardness, and limescale buildup.

Important: A TDS meter does not identify specific contaminants such as lead or PFAS, so this before-and-after test does not independently verify Papablic's contaminant-removal claims. Those require contaminant-specific laboratory testing or certification.

We also appreciated that the water reservoir is completely separate from the washer. A full reservoir can be fairly heavy, so you don't necessarily need to lift it back onto the counter after filling it.

We simply left ours in the sink during operation, making filling and refilling easy while keeping the large reservoir off the countertop. If you prefer a cleaner-looking setup, you can place it beside the washer instead.

Design, Features & Included Accessories

The SafeguardPlus feels like a genuinely premium appliance, with sturdy materials, a smooth-operating lid, and excellent overall fit and finish.

It also comes with a generous supply of consumables.

Two packages of 30 detergent tablets are included, giving you 60 washes right out of the box. Papablic also includes two descaling tablets for periodic maintenance. Before starting a wash cycle, you simply place one detergent tablet into the washer.

One particularly useful feature is the quick-reference sticker attached to the side of the unit.

It explains when to use Rapid+, Normal, Heavy, and Extra Sterilize modes and also provides maintenance guidance.

Papablic notes that the optional Extra Sterilize setting can be used when additional sanitation is desired, while the regular Normal and Heavy programs already use high-temperature cleaning.

When the circular "30" symbol illuminates, the machine is reminding you to perform routine maintenance, such as self-cleaning or filter replacement. After performing maintenance, you can reset it by holding the Start/Stop button for about 3.5 seconds.

Capacity, Racks & Controls

Capacity is one of the SafeguardPlus's biggest strengths. Papablic advertises space for up to eight bottles, and unlike some optimistic capacity claims we've encountered, we were actually able to fit eight real-world bottles from multiple brands into the lower rack at the same time.

Our load included two Dr. Brown's bottles, two Tommee Tippee bottles, two Chicco bottles, one Comotomo bottle, and one Medela bottle. With several wide-mouth bottles such as the Comotomo and Tommee Tippee models, eight bottles make for a fairly tight squeeze, but everything fit.

The lower rack also accommodates the long Dr. Brown's vent reservoirs, which we positioned upside-down as directed so they receive effective spray coverage.

The upper rack provides plenty of room for nipples, collars, and smaller vent components.

This two-level layout is practical because bottle bodies occupy the bottom while nipples and smaller feeding accessories get their own dedicated cleaning area above.

We also think the SafeguardPlus has one of the best control panels we've used on a bottle washer.

There are two main buttons for Power and Start/Stop, followed by five clearly labeled cycle controls: Rapid+, Normal, Heavy, Extra Sterilize, and Dry.

The display shows the current phase and provides a digital countdown timer, so you always know what the washer is doing and approximately how much time remains. We found the entire interface extremely intuitive.

Wash, Sterilize, Dry & Storage Modes

The SafeguardPlus offers three primary wash programs plus optional steam sterilization and drying.

Every wash program uses approximately 0.8 gallons, or 3 liters, of water. Adding Extra Sterilize requires another 10.2 ounces, or approximately 0.3 liters.

Papablic advertises 99.99% germ reduction through the extra steam sterilization and what it describes as a triple high-heat treatment across the washing, sterilization, and drying process.

We did not perform microbiological testing ourselves, so we treat the 99.99% figure as a manufacturer claim rather than a result of our hands-on testing.

We especially like the cycle flexibility. Rapid+ provides a 12-minute wash when turnaround time matters, Normal provides a sensible everyday option, and Heavy adds extra cleaning time for more challenging loads.

During washing, the clear lid lets you see what is happening inside.

It makes it easy to confirm that the wash system is actively circulating detergent and water throughout the load.

Drying occurs after the washing and optional sterilization phases.

The SafeguardPlus uses two substantial rear-mounted fans for drying, along with an accessible air filter.

Papablic says this model provides twice the drying power of its previous-generation bottle washer. We didn't perform a direct head-to-head test against the older model, but the dual-fan system performed exceptionally well in our own drying test.

Once drying ends, the machine automatically enters its 72-hour storage mode.

During storage, the machine runs a 10-minute drying cycle every two hours, helping maintain airflow and prevent residual humidity from accumulating around the clean bottles and accessories.

Cleaning & Drying Performance

This is ultimately where a bottle washer earns its place on the counter, and the SafeguardPlus performed exceptionally well.

Papablic uses dual spray arms to provide broad 360-degree coverage, helping water and detergent reach narrow bottle openings and awkward accessories such as nipples, collars, and Dr. Brown's vent components.

After our wash cycle, all eight bottles, nipples, collars, and vent pieces looked spotless. We didn't find obvious milk residue, soap residue, cloudiness, or significant water spotting.

Drying performance was even more impressive. When we inspected the upper rack immediately after the drying cycle, the nipples and accessories were completely dry.

We couldn't find even a single meaningful drop of water on the upper rack, which is excellent.

The bottom rack performed nearly as well.

All eight bottles were essentially completely dry, with only a tiny stray droplet here or there. More impressively, we didn't see the large puddles that sometimes collect on the concave bottoms of upside-down bottles in competing washers.

That's eight bottle bodies plus nipples, collars, and vent accessories, all washed together in a single batch and emerging remarkably clean and dry. For families washing large numbers of bottles every day, this capacity could meaningfully reduce how many loads you need to run.

Maintenance & Filter Costs

No bottle washer is completely maintenance-free, but Papablic has done a good job making routine care relatively straightforward. The machine includes an automatic maintenance reminder and a self-cleaning function, along with two descaling tablets in the box.

The main ongoing expense is the replaceable PurifyClean filter. Replacement filters cost about $20 each, and lifespan depends substantially on your local water quality.

With our approximately 200 ppm tap water, Papablic's guidance suggests changing the filter about every 30 wash cycles. With water below approximately 100 ppm, replacement may stretch closer to every 60 cycles.

That means someone running the washer every day with relatively hard water could spend roughly $20 per month on filtration.

There is another way to look at that cost. Each wash uses about 3 liters of water, so families who would otherwise purchase distilled or bottled water specifically for bottle washing may find the built-in filter substantially more convenient and potentially less wasteful.

Filtration may also help minimize water spotting, mineral accumulation, and limescale inside the washer.

Consumer Sentiment

The SafeguardPlus is still relatively new, so it doesn't yet have the long-term owner history of older bottle washers. Early consumer sentiment, however, is generally very positive.

Parents frequently praise the large capacity, modern appearance, ease of use, water filtration, and the amount of time an automatic washer can save when bottles and pump parts accumulate throughout the day. Those positive impressions were consistent with our own testing.

There is, however, one emerging complaint worth mentioning. A small number of owners have reported an unpleasant odor developing after a couple weeks or more of use. Some owners believe the smell is associated with the filter or drain system, and several reported that replacing the filter or performing additional cleaning helped temporarily.

Other SafeguardPlus owners report using the machine regularly without experiencing the issue.

We did not encounter any unusual odor during our testing, and the bottles themselves came out smelling clean and fresh. However, we encourage you to follow all instructions, including the 15-second rinse of the water filter after each use, emptying the water tank, and periodic cleaning.

What It Struggles With

No bottle washer is perfect, and the SafeguardPlus has a few drawbacks worth considering.

First, it's expensive. At approximately $399 at full retail price, this is firmly a premium bottle washer and tends to cost more than many competing systems.

Second, the filter creates an ongoing expense. Depending on your water quality, replacement may be required roughly every 30-60 wash cycles, and filters cost about $20 each.

Third, it still needs to live reasonably close to a sink. The direct-drain design is convenient, but the waste-water hose needs somewhere to drain during operation. That's not unique to the SafeguardPlus, nor do we prefer units with dirty water tanks!

Fourth, a full water reservoir is fairly heavy. Papablic largely solves that problem with the separate-tank design because you can simply leave it in the sink, but it's something to keep in mind if you intend to fill it and move it back to the counter for every load.

Other Impressions from Our Hands-On Testing

After living with the SafeguardPlus, what impressed us most was how easy it was to use. Setup was quick, the controls required virtually no learning curve, operation was quiet, and the combination of large capacity and flexible cycles made it especially convenient for everyday use.

We also think Papablic deserves credit for the overall industrial design. It looks more refined than many baby appliances without sacrificing performance or capacity.
