Take-home Message

Most people don't want to read this entire article to see what we found. So here is the summary of what we loved, and what we didn't.

✔️  Easy to use.
✔️  High quality parts.
✔️  Clear instructions.
✔️  Recipe book included.
✔️  Combined steam & blend.
✔️  Independent steam & blend.
✔️  Dishwasher safe bowl & blade.
✔️  Soft & smooth purees.
✔️  Convenient food pouches.
✔️  BPA-free food surfaces.
✔️  Very sharp blending blade.
✔️  Quiet steaming function.
✔️  Suction cup feet.
✔️  One-year warranty.
❌  Noisy blend function.
❌  Limited capacity.

Overall, this baby food maker has a lot to love, especially for parents looking to save time and energy with an all-in-one solution.

Some thoughts on the minor drawbacks:

First, the steaming function is very quiet, with some mild gurgling noises. However, the blending function was relatively loud. Do truly quiet blenders exist? Not really, even our immersion blender is about this loud. The good news is that the blender does a nice job.

Second, Baby Brezza advertises this as "makes 3.5 cups of delicious baby food" which is a little misleading. In reality, the bowl can hold up to 3.5 cups of raw ingredients, which will yield less prepared food. For example, 3.5 cups of raw blueberries will yield about 2 cups of pureed blueberries. Thus, we think a more reasonable expectation is that you can prepare about 2 cups of baby food.

Outside of that, we definitely think the pros outweigh the minor cons, and it's worth every penny of the $129 asking price.

Unboxing the Baby Brezza One Step Food Maker

The food maker is packed in a medium-sized box.

A bit larger than two shoe boxes stacked atop one another. It weighs about 5 pounds.

In the box you will find the following:

  • The food maker itself, including the bowl, lid, and water reservoir.
  • Three reusable baby food squeeze pouches.
  • Three funnels to help you fill the baby food squeeze pouches.
  • A recipe guidebook.
  • An instructions manual.
  • Two extra rubber drive shaft gaskets (more on that later!).

Everything is packed nice and securely, and feels high quality.

We're off to a good start!

Features of the Baby Brezza One Step Food Maker

The first thing we noticed when we unwrapped the food maker and put it on our counter: the suction cup feet!

Brilliant! These keep the food maker from wandering around on your counter during mixing, and keep it stable if you're working with one hand (while holding your little one!).

The controls are intuitive and easy to use.

Here is a close-up of the buttons:

From left to right, they are:

  • Steam and puree combined (steam then puree). Each time you press this button, it adds 5 minutes to the steam time (30 minutes max). Puree time is always 30 seconds.
  • Steam only. Each time you press this button, it adds 5 minutes to the steam time (30 minutes max).
  • Start (green ring). Press this button to start the steam and puree, or steam only functions.
  • Stop (red octagon). If for some reason you need to stop the steam or blend process, press this button.
  • Puree only. Press and hold this button down to puree the food to a desired consistency.

Note that you can also use the system to defrost or reheat frozen baby food. Simply place the food in the bowl and use the steam-only function.

Another unique feature of the Baby Brezza system is that it includes three food squeeze pouches and three refill funnels.

These are pretty unique. Rather than trying to fill the pouch through the small hole at the top, the entire side has a zip-lock-style opening that reveals a nice wide fill hole.

The funnels can be used to help pour food into the pouches, like this:

Another unique feature is that there is no steam basket.

Instead, Baby Brezza uses four wide perforated blades that the food sits atop and the steam can move through.

It's a clever design that works well while also reducing the number of parts you need to clean and keep track of.

Testing & Video

Now that we have the features out of the way, it's time for some testing!

We tried the food maker with carrots, then with peas. Both times we used the steam + puree function, with some additional pureeing (about 30 seconds) for the carrots.

We picked carrots because they tend to be a little more difficult to steam and puree to a smooth consistency. Then we tried peas, just for fun.

The instructions are relatively straightforward and easy to follow.

Before you use the food maker for the first time, we suggest cleaning the bowl and blades. We put them in our dishwasher for a deep clean.

There are six key steps:

  1. Pop off the water tank. There is a small white button on the back; press that button and pull straight up on the tank.
  2. Screw off the small cap and fill the water tank with water (if you've ever filled a humidifier, this will feel familiar). You can fill it to the top. The water doesn't need to be anything special, but we prefer filtered tap water (like from a refrigerator water dispenser). The water heating element is very accessible for cleaning, so weren't very worried about scaling etc.
  3. Screw the small cap back on, and lower the water tank back onto the food maker.
  4. If the blade isn't in the bowl, place it gently down onto the vertical driveshaft in the bowl. Do not push it down or turn it, just place it gently onto the driveshaft. The system will secure it automatically when it starts the blending process. You want it to sit loosely and up high for the steaming process, so don't try to secure it down (we made that mistake the first time we tried!).
  5. Add the chopped ingredients to the bowl. They will sit on top of the perforated blades. You can add up to 3.5 cups of raw chopped fruit or vegetables. If you're cooking meat, the limit is 1 cup of chopped meat.
  6. Start the process by selecting one of the settings on the control panel. We used steam + puree. Check the recipe guide to see how long to set the steaming for; for carrots, we set it to 25 minutes.

Here is the recipe guide to help you figure out how long to cook various foods:

Note that you should read the full instructions because the small superscript numbers have little notes.

For example, if there's a 1 next to the food, that means it has a high water content and you might want to drain some water before blending. In contrast, if there's a 2 next to the food, that means it tends to be very thick and you might want to add some water before blending.

Be sure to read the guidebook to learn how to optimize your baby food prep!

Here is a video showing us using the Baby Brezza food maker to prepare some carrots:

After about 3 minutes of prep and 25 minutes of steaming and puree, here is what we got:

We did about 30 seconds more blending after the initial automatic blend. If you want it even smoother, just press that blend button for a little while longer.

Some takeaways from our testing:

  • There's really nothing to dislike about this food maker, it does a pretty good job with everything.
  • Removing and replacing the bowl and its lid can be a little finicky, but nothing terrible. You'll get the hang of it pretty quickly.
  • The water tank gets really hot, so don't try to remove it immediately after steaming; wait like 10-15 minutes for it to cool down before popping it off.
  • The steam function is really quiet, but the blend function is relatively loud. Nothing terrible, but worth mentioning.
  • While Baby Brezza suggests that the system can "make 3.5 cups of delicious baby food," that's the maximum amount of raw fruits and vegetables you can put in the bowl. It's more like 2 cups of prepared food. They would need to increase the bowl capacity by about 75% if they wanted it to make 3.5 cups of prepared food.
  • The default amount of blending on the steam + blend setting is 30 seconds. For carrots, we needed to puree for an extra 30 seconds to get it to a smoother consistency.
  • Everything (bowl, blades, funnels) is dishwasher-safe, which we love. It makes cleanup a breeze!

The bottom line is that the Baby Brezza One Step Food Maker Deluxe was intuitive and easy to use, reliable and effective at steaming and pureeing, high quality, easy to clean, and looks pretty nice on our kitchen counter!

Basic Specifications

To help you figure out if this will work in your unique situation, we took some basic measurements:

  • Overall dimensions: 10" L x 6" W x 8" H.
  • Overall weight: 5 pounds.
  • Water tank capacity: 1 cup.
  • Bowl capacity: 3.5 cups raw food.
  • Bowl dimensions: 4.75" W x 5" H.
  • Blade dimensions: 3.8" diameter.
  • Steam times: Up to 30 minutes in 5-minute increments.

For a baby food maker, we think it's relatively sleek and doesn't take up much counter space.

Some Minor Cons

The Baby Brezza One Step Food Maker Deluxe offers awesome features at a relatively reasonable price, but there are a few minor drawbacks to consider.

First, although the steaming function is impressively quiet, the blending function is notably loud. While this is typical for most blenders, it can be disruptive in a quiet household. If your kitchen is next to your nursery, it could wake your baby.

Second, the advertised capacity of 3.5 cups can be misleading. This refers to the raw ingredient capacity, which yields less when pureed. For example, 3.5 cups of raw blueberries yield about 2 cups of puree. Therefore, it's more realistic to expect about 2 cups of prepared baby food.

Third, the water tank gets very hot after steaming, so it's best to let it cool before attempting to remove it.

Lastly, the bowl and lid can be a bit finicky to remove and replace, but this becomes easier with practice.

Would any of these little nitpicky cons stop us from purchasing one of these food makers? Absolutely not, we think it's one of the best on the market!

In fact, it has a solid position in the top five of our best baby food makers round-up!

Conclusions

The Baby Brezza One Step Food Maker Deluxe impressed us with its all-in-one functionality, combining seamless steaming and blending to simplify baby food preparation.

Its ease of use, high-quality parts, and intuitive design make it a standout choice for busy parents who are looking for extra convenience.

Despite a few minor drawbacks, such as the noisy blending function and the slightly misleading capacity, the overall performance and convenience of this food maker strongly outweigh these little concerns.

The quiet steaming, dishwasher-safe components, and included recipe book add to its appeal.

Overall, if you're looking for a reliable and efficient solution for homemade baby food, the Baby Brezza One Step Food Maker Deluxe is a no-brainer!
