We put the Lovevery Play Gym through our hands-on testing to evaluate assembly, included accessories, developmental guidance, sensory features, materials, washability, footprint, and overall value.

Let's see how it performed!

Full disclosure: We tested the Lovevery Play Gym independently and wrote this review based on our own hands-on impressions. As always, supervise your baby during play and follow all manufacturer age and safety guidance.

Lovevery markets the Play Gym as an all-in-one developmental activity gym for newborns and infants, with multiple sensory zones, detachable toys, play cards, and a stage-based play guide.

After spending time with it in our own home, we think that positioning is mostly fair. This is a thoughtfully designed premium play gym with more included developmental extras than many competitors, though it also asks for more space and a bit more setup patience.

Our Lovevery Play Gym Review

Here are our findings, right up front: what we loved, and a few things that could be improved.

✔️  Large 50" x 47" play area.
✔️  Includes play guide.
✔️  Includes play cards & mirror.
✔️  Great visual stimulation.
✔️  Clever card clips on arches.
✔️  Strong variety of textures.
✔️  Engaging hanging toys.
✔️  Hidden teether pocket.
✔️  Several auditory elements.
✔️  Machine washable mat.
✔️  Premium gift/unboxing feel.
✔️  Very good overall quality.
❌  High price.
❌  Assembly is difficult.
❌  No rubber grips on bottom.

Overall, the Lovevery Play Gym impressed us with its thoughtful staging, strong included extras, and genuinely useful visual system for newborns. It feels premium and developmentally smart, even if it is not the easiest to assemble, or the most compact option.

If you're looking for a premium baby play gym with a bigger footprint, excellent included accessories, and unusually strong support for early visual development, this could be an excellent option.

Unboxing & First Impressions

The Lovevery Play Gym arrives in a sturdy, premium-looking box that makes a very strong first impression, especially if you are giving it as a baby registry gift.

Packaging presentation matters more than people think, and Lovevery clearly put effort into making the unpacking experience feel polished and giftable.

Inside, everything is neatly organized and easy to identify, which helps offset the fact that the setup itself is a little more involved than some competing gyms.

The included manual is helpful, but one of the bigger advantages here is the developmental play guide, which gives parents a clearer sense of which features to use, how to position them, and what developmental skills babies may be working on at different stages.

The included play cards are also a real highlight because they include baby faces, high-contrast patterns, and a mirror, all of which can be swapped into the mat slots or attached higher up for babies who are still laying on their backs.

Quick Review Video

Here is a quick two-minute walk-through of the primary features of the Lovevery Play Gym:

Assembly & Setup

Assembly is one of the Lovevery Play Gym's weaker points.

Unlike the Lalo Play Gym II, which uses pre-attached arches at a central hinge, the Lovevery requires you to manually connect the three separate wooden arches into the top bracket.

That step is doable, but it takes more force and more patience than we expected from a premium product in this category.

If possible, have someone with strong grip strength help with this step, because pushing everything firmly into place can be surprisingly stubborn.

Just as important, taking it back apart is even less convenient, so we recommend setting it up in the room where you actually plan to use it rather than assuming you'll want to move and store it often.

Once assembled, though, it feels stable and substantial.

Design, Materials & Care

Once set up, the Lovevery Play Gym looks bright, playful, and packed with things for babies to notice, touch, and eventually grab.

It has a more colorful and visually active presentation than minimalist competitors, which some parents will love and others may find a little busier in a shared living space.

In our view, the extra visual variety works in its favor for baby engagement. There is a lot of color, pattern, texture, and sensory opportunity spread across the mat and hanging zones, which gives the whole gym a more developmental feel right out of the box.

A close-up of the product label also gives a useful look at construction and care details.

The tag shows polyester fiber in the play mat and sensory materials, a 4% plastic crinkle material, a 100% polyethylene card holder, and a finished size of 50" x 47".

It also lists the product as made in China and provides Lovevery's Boise, Idaho address.

One practical upside is that the mat is machine washable in cold water on a gentle cycle, though it should be air or drip dried rather than put through high heat.

We also wish Lovevery had added some kind of rubberized grip to the underside, because on smooth hardwood or tile floors the mat can shift around more than it needs to.

Sensory Play Features

The Lovevery Play Gym's biggest strength is the sheer number of thoughtfully differentiated sensory zones built into the mat itself.

Rather than simply adding random textures and toys, it organizes much of the experience into distinct play areas that encourage visual exploration, reaching, tactile discovery, and eventually simple problem-solving.

The Exploring Colors panel uses bright primary-color silky tabs against a watercolor-style background, giving babies both bold visual contrast and fun tactile fabric to pat and grasp.

The Exploring Sounds section includes three small hanging toys, each with its own distinct sound when shaken, which adds nice auditory variety without needing electronic lights or music.

The Exploring Textures zone is another success, with multiple surface types for babies to rub, pat, and inspect during tummy time or while rolling around the mat.

We also really like the Hiding and Finding pocket, which tucks away a teething ring on a rope so babies can discover and pull it out themselves.

That little feature adds both oral-sensory play and an early object-permanence concept in a very simple, baby-friendly way.

The fold-down mirror-and-cards flap is another excellent detail. Babies can look at themselves during floor play or focus on cards placed in the pockets, which adds valuable visual feedback during tummy time and early reaching.

It does fall down easily, however, and there's no mechanism to keep it upright.

Hanging Toys & Visual Play

One of the smartest design details on the Lovevery is the way it uses card clips attached to the arches.

That means even very young newborns who cannot yet reach, grasp, or bat at toys can still benefit from upward-facing visual stimulation while laying on their backs.

The included art cards are especially useful here because the early-stage designs include high-contrast black-and-white patterns and faces that are easier for newborns to see.

That is a meaningful advantage over the Lalo Play Gym II, which sells art cards separately rather than bundling them into the main package.

The primary wooden hanging toy is also excellent.

It feels high quality, makes a pleasant jingle when moved, adds a wooden clacking sound when shaken, and gives babies a good handle to grasp once they start reaching more intentionally.

We also like the crunchy watercolor-style hanging bandana, which offers a satisfying crinkle texture and a very different feel from the wooden toy:

The black-and-white squishy hanging ball rounds things out nicely with high contrast patterns and a more three-dimensional, squeezable texture:

If we could add one thing, it would be more easily removable teething toys like the Lalo includes, because that makes it simpler to repurpose toys away from the gym itself.

Other Impressions from Our Hands-On Testing

In day-to-day use, the Lovevery Play Gym stood out most for newborn-friendly visual engagement, variety of sensory content, and the feeling that it gives parents more guidance than usual on how to actually use all of its features.

We especially appreciate that the included guide and cards make the product feel more complete right away, rather than requiring extra add-ons (and cost) to unlock its full potential.

Its larger footprint is both a strength and a trade-off. On one hand, the 50" x 47" size gives babies more room to move, roll, and spread out. On the other hand, it takes up noticeably more real estate in a living room than smaller competitors.

We also think the visual busyness question depends on your taste. If you want a clean, subtle, modern look, this may feel a bit louder in the room. If your priority is maximum sensory richness and visual variety, the Lovevery does a great job of leaning into that.

The biggest day-to-day frustration remains assembly and disassembly. This is not the play gym we would choose if we needed to fold it away every evening or move it constantly between rooms.

Lalo vs. Lovevery

The most obvious premium competitor to the Lovevery is the Lalo Play Gym II, and after comparing the two, we think they both have strengths and weaknesses.

You can see our Lalo Play Gym II review here.

FeatureLalo Play Gym IILovevery Play Gym
Price Lower price Higher price
Footprint Smaller 38" x 38" footprint, better for apartments and smaller rooms Larger 50" x 47" size, better if you have more floor space
Assembly Very easy, thanks to pre-attached arches and center hinge More difficult setup, especially at the top bracket
Storage Easier to fold and store Bulkier and less convenient to take apart
Aesthetic More subtle colors and a calmer, modern look Brighter and visually busier, but richer in obvious stimulation
Floor grip Rubber grip bottom helps reduce sliding on hard floors No comparable rubberized bottom grip
Extras Art cards sold separately Includes art cards and developmental guide book
Stimulation Good sensory variety, but fewer bundled visual-learning extras Excellent newborn appeal with included upward-facing art card system
Materials Organic cotton and bamboo Polyester
Teething Easier to remove and use away from the gym Built-in teether feature is clever, but less flexible

The case for the Lalo is straightforward: it is easier to assemble, easier to fold away, smaller for compact homes, grippier on hard floors, has better fabrics, and is visually quieter in shared living spaces.

The case for the Lovevery is also easy to understand: it gives you a larger play area, more built-in developmental guidance, included art cards, and one of the best newborn visual-play systems in the category.

Our Conclusions

Who This Play Gym Is Best For

  • Parents who want a premium baby gym with a large play surface
  • Families who value included developmental guidance and art cards
  • Anyone who wants strong newborn-friendly visual stimulation
  • Parents who appreciate varied textures, sounds, and built-in sensory zones
  • Families with enough floor space to leave a larger gym set up
  • Gift-givers looking for a premium registry-friendly presentation

The Lovevery Play Gym is one of the most thoughtfully featured baby gyms we've tested in quite a while.

It combines a spacious mat, clever visual-play accessories, strong sensory variety, and genuinely useful guidance for parents in a way that feels more complete than many competitors.

We especially love the included play cards, upward-facing card clip system, developmental guide, hidden teether pocket, and well-executed mix of textures, sounds, and mirror play.

We do wish assembly were easier, the underside had better grip, and the overall design were a little easier to store or move once assembled.

Even so, those drawbacks are relatively minor compared with the overall quality and completeness of the experience.

We give the Lovevery Play Gym a 4.7 out of 5.0!
