Summary Ratings
Based on our hands-on reviews, we give this kids' bed a 9.6 out of 10 stars. Here's how it performed across 10 key considerations:
Feature | Rating (10-Star Scale) | Summary |
---|---|---|
Safety | ★★★★★★★★★★ (10/10) | Meets ASTM and CPSC standards, including structural integrity, material safety, and design requirements. |
Comfort | ★★★★★★★★★★ (10/10) | The tightly spaced solid wood slats provide high comfort and support, and all of the materials have rounded edges and smooth finishes. |
Quality & Durability | ★★★★★★★★★★ (10/10) | Extremely solid engineering with high-end materials. These include solid Brazilian wood, steel hardware, and tight connections. Everything fits together perfectly. |
Price & Value | ★★★★★★★★★☆ (9/10) | Premium price, but we think it's worth it for the high quality and beautiful design. Nestig's brand recognition provides significant long-term resale value. |
Assembly | ★★★★★★★★★☆ (9/10) | Thorough instructions make assembly straightforward (about 90 min). The two boxes are large and heavy (~70 lbs), so you’ll likely need help moving them. Spring for the white glove service and you won't need to worry about anything! |
Versatility & Longevity | ★★★★★★★★★★ (10/10) | We love the storage bin, providing some great versatility. The fact that it fits a twin bed and has a weight capacity of 310 pounds means excellent longevity from kid to teenager and beyond. |
Maintenance & Cleaning | ★★★★★★★★★☆ (9/10) | Smooth surfaces make for easy wipe-down and cleaning. The only maintenance we suggest is tightening the hardware once a year, especially if you have a child who likes to jump on the bed! |
Overall Average | ★★★★★★★★★☆ (9.6/10) | From safety to comfort, quality, and design, the Nestig excels in nearly every category, making it an outstanding choice for parents seeking a top-tier bed. |
Overall, the Nestig Off Road Kids Bed is a beautifully designed kids' bed that blends playful aesthetics with durable construction.
Priced at $899, this twin-sized bed offers a race car-inspired design while providing comfort and functionality for growing children. With thoughtful details like faux wheels, headlights, and a built-in storage bin, it's a stylish yet practical choice for transitioning kids from a crib to their first "big-kid" bed!

Key Take-home Messages
Most parents don't have time to read through this entire article, so here is a summary of what we found.
We were excited to get our hands on this amazing bed and were pleasantly surprised by the following aspects:
✔️ Intuitive assembly.
✔️ Very high build quality.
✔️ Great fit & finish.
✔️ Low profile design.
✔️ Durable solid wood.
✔️ Great mattress support.
✔️ Beautiful design.
✔️ Sturdy construction.
✔️ Convenient storage bin.
✔️ Fits twin-size mattress.
✔️ Supports up to 310 lbs.
✔️ Meets ASTM standards.
✔️ White glove delivery.
✔️ Matches Nestig products.
However, like with any review we write, we also had some little gripes worth mentioning:
❌ Large & heavy packaging.
❌ No side rails.
Regarding the two heavy boxes, we strongly encourage the white glove service. They will carry the boxes wherever you need, assemble the bed, and leave your space clean and clutter-free!
Regarding the side rails, we don't think it's necessary with this bed. The high sides near the headboard and footboard should prevent most children from rolling out of bed. Our test child is a very active sleeper and had no issues whatsoever!
Overall, we think this kids' bed is a great example of what Nestig is known for: quality, versatility, and design. It hits all the spots and we absolutely loved testing it!
About Nestig
Nestig is a modern children’s furniture brand known for combining thoughtful design with sustainability.
Based in New York, NY, Nestig was founded by Guilherme Picciotto and Sara Adam Slywka (pictured below) to focus on creating versatile, long-lasting products with a specialty in producing handcrafted pieces made from sustainably sourced materials.
The brand's products are designed in collaboration with artisans in Brazil, blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design.
Nestig is best known for its innovative Wave and Cloud Cribs, convertible cribs that transition from a mini crib to a full crib and eventually a toddler bed.
Their kids' beds are also popular and praised for their stylish designs, quality materials, and functionality.
Nestig’s commitment to sustainability and customer-focused design has made it a standout choice for parents seeking durable and beautiful nursery and children's furniture.
Specifications
Here are some basic specifications for the Nestig off road kids bed:
- Overall Bed Dimensions: 43.58” H x 90.59” L x 43.58” W
- Storage Bin Dimensions: 38.78” W x 9.06” D x 11.14” H
The bed’s overall length is approximately 15 inches longer than a standard twin mattress to accommodate the headboard and storage bin. Be sure you have adequate room to accommodate its length!
Shipping and Assembly
Nestig offers two shipping options:
Standard Delivery: Ships via FedEx or UPS, arriving in two boxes and left outside your home. Expect delivery in about a week after shipment.
White Glove Delivery (highly recommended!): For an additional fee, professionals deliver the bed, assemble it in your room of choice, and take away all packaging. The cost is dependent on your distance from a delivery center.
In our experience, we opted for the White Glove Service, and it was well worth it.
The team carried the two heavy boxes inside (each box is about 70+ pounds!), assembled the bed within about an hour, cleaned up thoroughly and removed all packaging, and left no mess behind.
Here are a couple of photos (taken from our Nanit baby monitor!) of the crew assembling the bed.
For those assembling the bed themselves, expect to spend roughly 90 minutes with two people working together.
The included manual provides clear instructions, but given the weight of the boxes and solid wood pieces, having an extra pair of hands will be necessary.
In a nutshell, here is the assembly process:
- Assemble the front grille.
- Attach the sides.
- Attach headboard.
- Attach the wheels.
- Position and screw in the 14 slats.
- Attach the lid to the storage bin.
Once you conquer this process, the next step is to move the bed exactly where you'd like and throw on any twin-size mattress.
The final assembled product is rewardingly adorable!
Quality and Comfort
When it comes to the quality of a kids' bed, there are a few primary considerations.
First, you want it to have high-quality hardware. High-quality steel hardware will give the bed a sturdy construction that doesn't wobble, squeak, or come loose after a few months of use.
This bed uses excellent hardware, here is a close-up of a steel bracket used to support the rails:
Second, you want the wooden seams to all fit nicely together, reducing rub and pinch points, and promoting a great visual aesthetic.
Here is an example:
Third, you want many mattress support slats that are tightly spaced. In the above photo, you'll notice that each slat is only a couple inches from one another, there is a sturdy center support rail, and there are multiple (14 of them!) slats.
This helps provide an excellent support surface for a mattress, high weight tolerance, and no mattress sagging. Here's a second view of the slats:
Overall, we think the quality and comfort offered by the Nestig off-road kids bed are very high. Nestig didn't cut any corners with its design and development and should be commended for making such a great product.
Other Cool Features
One unique feature of the Nestig off road kids bed is the convenient storage bin.
The bin opens easily and has a strut to hold it open and a slow-close hinge to prevent pinched fingers.
And it's large enough to fit a few stuffed animals, an extra pillow or blanket, or some favorite toys. We love it!
Another adorable and unique feature are the wheels.
There are four wheels, two on each side, and a fifth wheel on the back (like the spare tire on a Jeep!).
They don't spin, which is probably good, but they are certainly really cute:
And, in case you were wondering, it's certainly strong and sturdy enough for a bouncy toddler or big kid!
Here's a quick video of our test kiddo jumping on the bed!
Compatible Mattresses
One of the things we love about this big kid bed is that it can fit any twin-size mattress.
Toddler mattresses are not very versatile because they are the same size as a crib mattress, limiting the number of years they can support a growing child.
A twin mattress, on the other hand, is large enough for not only toddlers and big kids, but also adults!
For parents who are frequently called into bed with their child, this makes for a much more comfortable sleeping situation!
We suggest purchasing the twin mattress directly from Nestig when you purchase the bed. They offer two excellent options, the Lullaby Earth and the Naturepedic twin mattress. Or ensure your chosen mattress meets standard twin-size dimensions for a proper fit.
Or, you can use any other twin mattress that you choose!
Quirks and Annoyances
There aren't many quirks and annoyances to mention with this bed, but there is always room for improvement!
First, the boxes that the bed ships in are large and heavy. This is because Nestig uses high-quality solid wood construction.
We definitely suggest getting the white glove shipping service!
Second, there is no side rail to prevent toddlers from rolling out of the bed.
However, note that this bed has very high sides towards the headboard and footboard, making it very unlikely that a child will roll out of the bed.
If your child moves a lot during sleep, consider a mattress with good edge support.
Overall Conclusions
The Nestig Off Road Kids Bed is an excellent choice for parents seeking a stylish, durable, and functional bed for their child’s transition to a “big kid” bed.
The high-quality materials, thoughtful design, and spacious storage make it stand out as an excellent option. While some minor assembly issues and the lack of bed rails are worth noting, our overall experience (especially with White Glove Delivery) is incredibly positive.
If you’re looking for the perfect kids' bed that blends playtime excitement with bedtime comfort, the Nestig Off Road Kids Bed drives straight to the finish line!
